Is Blepharoplasty right for you?

Do your eyelids make you look tired, aged, or affect your vision?

Perhaps you’ve noticed sagging or excess skin on your upper eyelids (a condition called dermatochalasis) that folds when you blink or even limits your field of vision. Or maybe your lower eyelids have developed puffiness, dark circles, or under-eye bags that are difficult to conceal.

Whether for functional reasons like improving your sight, or aesthetic reasons such as rejuvenating your appearance, blepharoplasty may be the ideal solution to restore a more refreshed, youthful look.

How is a Blepharoplasty performed ?

The Blepharoplasty Procedure

An upper blepharoplasty removes excess skin, fat, and sometimes muscle from the upper eyelids. This can reduce drooping, improve your field of vision, and create a more defined eyelid contour. For some, this procedure is medically necessary to correct eyelid ptosis (where the upper eyelid droops too far over the eye). For others, it’s about enhancing the natural contour of the eyelid for a smoother eyelid contour. For patients of Asian descent, Asian Blepharoplasty or Double Eyelid Surgery creates a defined upper eyelid crease, opening the eyes and enhancing their shape. Dr Wetton has been trained by leading oculoplastic and cosmetic surgeons in Australia and internationally, ensuring a nuanced approach tailored to your specific eye structure.

If under-eye bags, dark circles, or sagging lower lids are your concern, lower blepharoplasty may help smooth the transition between your lower eyelid and upper cheek. This procedure targets the fat pads beneath the eyes, redistributing or removing them to create a refined appearance. Depending on your specific needs, Dr Wetton may use either the transconjunctival approach (with incisions inside the eyelid for no visible scars) or the subciliary approach (a discreet incision just beneath the lower lash line). If excess skin or lax ligaments are contributing factors, a minor skin tightening or a canthopexy (eyelid tightening) may also be performed.

Recovery

Your surgery will be performed at a licensed, accredited Day Hospital. When you wake, you may experience mild discomfort and swelling, but Dr Wetton uses advanced techniques and anaesthetic solutions to minimise pain and bruising.

You’ll leave the hospital the same day with small dressings applied. Most patients feel ready to resume light activities such as walking within a few days, but we recommend avoiding strenuous exercise for several weeks.

Swelling and bruising will begin to subside, and you’ll return to the clinic for stitch removal and a check-up on your healing. You’ll also receive guidance on how to care for your delicate eye area to ensure optimal scar healing.

After one week

Within 6 weeks, most swelling will have reduced, and you can return to more vigorous activities. The final results typically emerge within 3–6 months as residual swelling resolves, creating a smoother and more refined eyelid contour.
